Animations look awesome when moving between apps and screens on your Android phone or tablet, but they can cause delays and even slow down lower-powered devices. You can actually improve performance in Android by adjusting animation settings. The settings are located in the DEVELOPER OPTIONS menu, which is hidden by default since Android 4.2 to prevent inexperienced users from touching it.
- Open the SETTINGS menu and head to the ABOUT DEVICE option. Scroll down and tap on BUILD NUMBER field until you see a message saying “You are now a developer!”
- Now open the DEVELOPER OPTIONS menu from the main settings page and scroll down to the DRAWING SECTION to locate WINDOW ANIMATION SCALE, TRANSITION ANIMATION SCALE, and ANIMATOR DURATION SCALE.
- If you are really looking to speed things up, tap on each of these animation options and turn them OFF. Or set each one of them to ANIMATION SCALE 0.5x
- Restart your device (or force stop and relaunch your Android launcher) for the changes to take effect.
You must leave the Developer Options turned ON to keep the adjusted animations settings. Turning it off will reset the animations back to their default settings.
