How to reset an Android phone

We have all been in a situation where you had to restore a phone to its original state – like how it had been when you opened the box. This is an extremely easy trick to learn and can be very useful while trying to sell your phone or RMA-ing it or sending it for repairs. There are two ways to go about it. First one is the easiest – via the settings menu. The second one is a bit mode tricky – You’ll have to go into recovery mode.

Using the Settings menu

  1. Back up all the data like photos, documents, etc.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Go to Backup and reset.
  4. Click on Factory data reset.
  5. Tick the Erase stored data if you want to erase all stored data like images, videos, documents, etc.
  6. Now click on Erase phone. Please note, once done, this cannot be reversed.
