The Nexus devices bought by Ubuntu Touch Port team are now slotted for development. Nexus 6P wasn’t bought by donations like the other devices because it doesn’t have KitKat on which Ubuntu Touch is based on.
Ubuntu is a Linux operating system for PC’s, Smartphones and Network servers. Its Touch Port team has been working for the development of many devices since recent years. They had recently bought a few Nexus devices- Nexus 6, 5X and 9. The team is rumored to be working on the development of Nexus 10- the tablet who’s popularity has been reduced due to its slowness and many other issues. However, Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 were the first devices to get the ports. Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P were launched together with Marshmallow.
When Nexus 7 adopted Ubuntu touch, it was almost impressive. The installation is painless and takes very less time, roughly 45 minutes. It is made for software developers who are very comfortable with Linux command line. The performance review was mixed, but switching between applications is an easy job here. Nexus devices have always been hated for battery issues. To worsen this, if you install the Ubuntu Touch, battery life moves from bad to horrible.
The porting is not yet clear as it hasn’t been started yet.
