The Korean company has unveiled its latest generation of flagship mobile the LG G5 with a Snapdragon 820 processor and 4 GB of RAM. The phone also debuts a new new concept of interchangeable modules called LG G5 & Friends.
LG G5 smartphone
The Korean electronics giant LG has announced its latest flagship the LG G5 smartphone at the Mobile World Congress. The much talked about G5 packs the mighty Snapdragon 820 coupled with 4 gigs of RAM. The smartphone comes with a 32 GB internal memory which, thankfully, is expandable via a MicroSD card. Surprisingly, the battery capacity has been reduced from G4’s 3000mah to 2800 mah. And finally, the phone has got you covered on the all of the connectivity fronts with NFC and a USB type-C port with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0. The phone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow and will be available in 4 different colors: silver, titan, gold, and pink.
The front fascia of the phone is adorned with a 5.3″ Quad HD IPS Quantum display which LG says is brighter than the outgoing G4. The party trick is the new ‘always-on’ mode of the screen which displays the notifications and calendar even when the phone is locked. On the back there are two bulges which contain the fingerprint scanner and a nice dual camera setup: a standard 78-degree 16MP lens and a 135-degree wide-angle 8MP lens. LG boasts that the camera is 1.7 times wider than the ordinary smartphone cameras and the widest on the market. Its even 15 degrees wider than the human eye’s field of view.
LG G5 Friends
The LG G5 was a much awaited smartphone by the consumers because of all the rumors surrounding the phone, which suggested that it would be available with many different interchangeable modules to suit certain needs. LG on its part has tried to stand true to that concept and tried to deliver what the customers expected. The modules, or LG G5 and Friends as the company calls them, plug directly into the phone either wirelessly, or through the removable bottom chin and the Type-C port.
First is the CAM Plus which adds more surface area to the back of the phone for a camera like grip. It has physical buttons for power, camera shutter, video recording, zoom, and an LED indicator along with a 1200 mah additional battery. Then there is the Hi-Fi Plus with Bang & Olufsen Play, which is a portable Hi-Fi DAC audio player that supports 32-bit 384KHz high-definition audio playback. The phone can also be paired with accessories such as the TONE Platinum Bluetooth earphones and the H3 by B&O Play wired earphones.
Not stopping at its heels, the company also announced the 360 VR – a VR goggle that connects to the G5 via a cable and simulates a 130″ TV viewed from 2 meters away. here is also the 360 CAM, a small camera equipped with two 13 MP 200 deg wide-angle lenses, 3 microphones, 4GB of internal memory with MicroSD slot, and a 1200mAh battery. And finally there is the Rolling Bot, a Sphero-like ball that rolls around and captures 8MP photos. Not to be mistaken as just a toy, the Bot can be used as a pet companion, as a home monitoring system thanks to its WiFi-connected camera, speaker, microphone, and a remote controller for other home appliances with its two embedded infra-red sensors. Now that’s something smart!
The pricing and release date of the Phone and its modules has not been announced yet but the company is soon going to unleash them for us to enjoy.
