Facebook is now testing its messenger to bring back messaging for Android – a feature that was long lost.
SMS was always a part of Facebook Messenger until Facebook removed this three years ago. According to the recent reports, Facebook is now working on bringing back the SMS support for Messenger for Android. This feature has already started rolling out for many Android devices in the US to be tested. Facebook has confirmed the reports regarding the test and has also announced the launch of multiple account support for Android devices. You can log in through the same device with multiple accounts and don’t have to log out and log in again to switch accounts. To enable this go to your facebook app settings and add users.
With this feature, Facebook will work similar to Google Hangouts where both SMS’s and Chat messages are combined. This feature is, however, optional and can be enabled whenever the user likes to and can also be disabled. Go to your messenger setting panel of your app and look for the Change SMS app to see if your app has the new SMS feature. Once this option is enabled, text entry field changes from “Write a message” to “Write an SMS message.” The difference in display is that the messages sent as SMS texts will appear in purple and the others will be blue.
This social media giant has now passed 800 Million monthly users.
